A Little About What We Do…
Pawsitive Karma Rescue was founded on the principle of Karmic Law…essentially one good deed leads to another. Every time one of our animals is adopted into a loving home we are able to save another animal from almost certain death at the shelter. PKR is a 100% foster and volunteer based rescue group. The animals we pull from local shelters go immediately into foster care. No rescue facility to maintain means no overhead costs. All of the donations we receive go directly to the care and support of our animals.
PKR primarily focuses on saving the “last chance” animals from Central Texas animal shelters. Shelter personnel evaluate each animal when it arrives. Those animals classified as “behavior” cases or considered undesirable based on breed, color or age are usually scheduled for immediate euthanasia, particularly in “high kill” and overcrowded shelters. We have found that these types of animals are actually very adoptable. Once they are removed from the stressful shelter environment and placed in foster care their true personalities slowly start to emerge. Some animals may require more socialization than others but with a little patience and a lot of love they blossom into happy, healthy, adoptable cats and dogs. PKR also has a barn placement program for feral cats needing relocation and actively supports the TNR efforts of its volunteers and the local TNR community.
As an organization run completely by volunteers, we live by the following quote. It expresses very clearly why we do what we do.
“You Are Not Here Merely To Make A Living. You Are Here In Order To Enable The World To Live More Amply, With Greater Vision, With A Finer Spirit Of Hope And Achievement. You Are Here To Enrich The World, And You Impoverish Yourself If You Forget The Errand.”

Total Lives Saved 2011-2018: 3,000 +
In 2019 Our Goal Is To Save 400 More Lives
How We Got Started
Pawsitive Karma Rescue was founded by Tabitha Galeana and Tammie Brandon, two Central Texas women with a passion for animals, particularly the underdogs and cats they encountered at the local animal shelters. Unfortunately, animal behavior is not an area of expertise for most shelter employees which means thousands of adoptable animals are euthanized each year based on uninformed assessments. Tabitha and Tammie decided to become the “voice” for these castoffs, performing their own evaluations and communicating their findings to the shelter staff prior to placing the animal into PKR’s adoption program.

To Our Wonderful Sponsors We Say Thank You..!
We can’t say enough good things about all of our sponsors who helped us over the past few years. They all gave because they cared. They got involved with us and stepped up to help Pawsitive Karma. We strongly urge all our followers to return the Pawsitive Karma to these companies by patronizing them whenever you have a need for their products or services. We could not exist without their help.
“I love animals and feel very strongly that people should not be allowed to have a pet if they are not able to look after it. Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive. Please let us know if you need assistance you can’t find on this site.
Do You Rescue Dog or Cats or Both?
Well, the short answer is both. However, our mission is to help save “last chance” animals in shelters that are about to be euthanized. And the largest group, by far, on that list are cats. So, that is where we focus our efforts.
What Kind Of Non Profit Organization Are You?
We have a 501 c3 non profit designation by the IRS and donations can be tax deductible with us just like any other organization that has the same designation. We carry no paid administrative positions. All of our staff are volunteers. This enables us to funnel the greatest amount of money and resources directly to the animals that need it.
How Can I Help?
Thanks for asking..! Individuals can help in so many ways. right now, due to the recent hurricanes, we have a real need for money. We have several animals that are in need of surgery and any amount you would contribute would really help. You can see our pages on volunteering and donating to see more ways you can help.
Can I Place An Animal Directly With You?
Right now we don’t take direct placements because the need to recover animals from shelters, as well as the recent hurricanes, is so great. If you look on our Resources page, we have some information for those that need to place an animal directly.
What Areas Do You Serve?
We started in Austin Texas and focused our initial efforts in central Texas. Now, however, we try to work whereever the need is. We regularly rescue animals from shelters all across the state. Recently we rescued over 30 animals from the gulf coast after Hurricane Harvey. We work to actively recruit volunteers to help us expand our mission everyday.
Do You Have Adoption Events?
Yes, we do. The exact timing depends on the number of animals entering our system. You can check this webiste or our Facebook page for dates and times.
